Week Thirty Five Sunday’s Grateful List

Today I am grateful for time.

Today I am grateful for time to spend wandering in my garden.

Today I am grateful for time to sit and sing. I am singing at a gig in September and I have spent hours this morning looking for songs to sing, downloading them and singing them over and over ( I am also lucky we live on acreage and have a big house – it means I don’t inflict my practice on too many people).

Today I am grateful I have time to read. I love reading and spend a few minutes every night before I go to bed reading. It is a wonderful way to quieten  my brain and helps to sleep well.

Today I am grateful I have time to plan. I spend time each week planning what I want to achieve in the following week. I have always done this but this year I have the added help of a friends planner The Year of Me .

Today I am grateful that I have time to spend with my family. My girls went to a concert last night and I picked them up late last night. I am grateful I had time to sleep in this morning.

Week Thirty Five Monday’s Grateful List

Today I am grateful for fun memories.

Yesterday I caught up with a beautiful group of my old friends from my nursing days. I trained at the Royal Brisbane Hospital in the days when nurses were trained in a hospital setting and not a university. We trained as a group over three years. We had such fun together. I think the things we saw and what we had to deal with resulted in knowing how to have serious fun when we got together. Back then there was no such thing as visiting a psychologist or having counseling. I think many of us experienced life in a pretty confronting way. I remember my first day ever working in a ward I saw a man die – I was not even eighteen. We didn’t get together to talk about the terrible things that we saw ( we may have talked a lot about the terrible way we were treated by the older registered nurses) – we got together to have fun.

Graduating in 1988

I am grateful for the wonderful women I met during my training years.

Some of our nursing group together during lectures.

Lecture time again.

I am grateful for the fantastic times we had while we were nursing.

Getting wrecked on Great Keppel.

Fun times doing the Royal Review – this particular year the name of the Review was Batdoc.

I am grateful that I am still friends with quite a few of those women 30 years later.

I am grateful that I caught up with some of those women yesterday.

How we look in 2016.

I am grateful for new memories that I am making with those women now and I am so grateful that some of these women are still nursing. Anyone who is looked after by them will be cared for in a very special way.

Week Thirty Four Tuesday’s Grateful List

Today I am grateful for all things related to Modern Medicine.

Today I am grateful for X-rays machines. I am having a mammogram today and although I know it will be very uncomfortable I also know that it is a procedure that will pick up any nasty lumps quickly. I would then have the best chance of a positive outcome.

Today I am grateful for blood tests. I had my electrolytes checked last week. The results came through and I know that my one remaining kidney is working very efficiently.

Today I am grateful for doctors. Doctors saved my life and so I am very grateful for all the doctors who were involved. I am also grateful for my regular GP who is wonderful. I am continuing to see an orthopedic surgeon and a urologist for continuing follow up care. I have a very high regard for both these people and trust that the care they are giving me is the best possible.

Today I am grateful for modern drugs. I am grateful that if I have pain I know I can take panadol. I am grateful that if I have an infection hopefully there will be antibiotics that can combat it.

Today I am grateful for modern sterilizing techniques. These techniques mean that we can have procedures safely with little or no risk of infection from the procedure.

I am aware that many people in our community are unhappy with the manner in which modern medicine is administered. I believe there is a much greater link between mind, body and spirit that is yet to be established. I also believe there is wonderful potential to reduce stress, improve diet and alter our environment to reduce the need for medicine and improve the outcomes when medicine is required. I  am however grateful for all the wonderful doctors, procedures and medicine that is available to make our lives better and healthier.

I am aware that many people do not have a regular GP or one that they trust. I encourage you today to find one that gives you confidence. I believe it is essential to have regular medical checkups with someone who knows you well to ensure that the right medical treatment can be administered when or if needed. If you have procedures or check ups that you have been putting off I encourage you to organize to have them them done as soon as possible. The right treatment early can save your life.

Week Thirty Three Thursdays Grateful List

Today I am grateful for good habits.

Today I am grateful for starting the day with a meditation. Since my accident I have not had to get up at 4am to go cycling so I have changed my routine for the morning. I now start my morning with a 20 minute meditation. It is a wonderful start to the day. When I go back to cycling I will try and be more efficient before I go and at least do 10 minutes of meditation.

Today I am grateful that since my accident I have had to be much more aware of staying hydrated as I only have one kidney now. As a result I start each morning with a glass of water and I try and have a glass of water before each meal and at least three other times during the day.

Today I am grateful that I start each day with a lovely breakfast and I am drinking beautiful tea at the moment too ( mainly because I am having a month of no coffee).

Today I am grateful for dry brushing each morning. I try and remember every morning to dry brush my skin before I have a shower. It makes me feel all tingly and alive.

Today I am grateful for my normal routine of making a list of the five things I am grateful about. It keeps me positive and even though I have times that I get a bit down( like everyone I think) it makes me turn my day around and I love finding something positive in each day.

Today I am grateful that I have been able to add exercise back into my routine. this week I have started a regular program of pilates, I am still walking and I have also added in weights and sitting on a stationary bike and riding. I feel so alive!

Today I am grateful that once a day I try and go outside and breath in the fresh air.

What good habits do you have ?

Week Thirty Three Wednesdays Grateful List

Today I am grateful for beautiful cups of tea. I have been drinking lots of tea instead of coffee.

Today I am grateful that I am 10 days into Febfast -I have been having no alcohol and no coffee.

Today I am grateful that after 10days of no alcohol and no coffee that I at last have no headache.

Today I am grateful that after 10 days of doing Michelle Bridges 12WBT that I have lost 0.6kg. I love the food and the mindset videos. We even had a vegetarian meal last night and it was delicious. We had roasted sweet potato and a mexican bean mix with yoghurt and coriander. Yum!

Today I am grateful for how well I feel. It always amazes me how much better I feel when I take alcohol and high sugary foods from my diet. I know it shouldn’t surprise me but it always does. I think it is a great way to reminder yourself to live more cleanly if you regularly take structured periods of eating very cleanly and having breaks from any alcohol in your system.

What is something that you could eliminate from your diet that would make you feel better ( for example alcohol)? Perhaps there is something that you could add to your diet that would make you feel better ( for example more water). I would love to hear from you if you have any thoughts about what makes you feel more healthy.
