Week Thirty Eight Friday’s grateful list

Today I am grateful for the lovely week I have had.

Today I am grateful that I went to a lovely lunch on Wednesday at Tartufo. It was a fundraising lunch for Mummy’s Wish an organization that supports mothers with cancer. It was a wonderful lunch – the company was great, the food fantastic, the fashion parade by White Label Noba sublime and the music wonderful. Carla Haddan who organized it did a wonderful job.

Week Thirty Eight – I am grateful that I do not have breast cancer.

I have not been very grateful for the last two weeks. I have been having tests and this morning the last lot of results came through and I can now confirm that I do not have breast cancer. I feel very grateful today.

I had my regular mammogram two weeks ago. I was all dressed ready to go home when the girls came back in and told me I needed  more films done for my mammogram. The results of the mammogram showed I had an area of calcification. I have areas of calcification that have been investigated in the past but this was new calcification and the doctor advised me to have some further investigations done. The following Tuesday I had multiple small biopsies done under guided X-ray. The results came back from these biopsies on the Friday and I was informed that the biopsies had some nasty cells in them and I needed further surgery. So the following Tuesday I had further biopsies done under general anaethetic. I got the results of this today and I have been given the all clear. Thank goodness.

I thought I had had enough for the last few months. Obviously the universe had other ideas.

The events of the last few weeks have really tested my ability to stay grateful. I have not been grateful. I have felt bruised and sore. I have not felt like exercising. I have not been meditating.  I have not eaten properly. I have been happy to have a glass or two or three of wine a bit more often than normal. I haven’t been sleeping well. I generally have been feeling pretty ordinary.

I find it interesting that even though the tests I have had in the last few weeks haven’t been as hard as the few weeks after my accident it has definitely effected how positive I have felt. It has just been another layer that has slowed my recovery down. I know all the things that will help to make me feel better but I have chosen not to do them in the last two weeks.

Today however is a new day. I have meditated today. I will walk in the morning. I will start eating well again. I will go to bed early. I will practice gratitude. I will be kind to myself and not beat myself up about all the things I haven’t done in the last two weeks.

I have regular mammograms and I have done every year since I was 39. This year I was very reluctant to go and have my regular mammogram because I had had enough of doctors and hospitals. I am very glad I did go. I had these nasty cells picked up before they developed into cancer.

If you have put off your mammogram please organize it today. The earlier breast changes are picked up the better your chances are for a good result.

Week Thirty Seven Wednesday’s Grateful List

Today I am grateful for music.

This morning a watched on ABC a program on Catalyst called Music On the Brain. It is an episode that reveals how personalized playlists can reawaken the brains of people with dementia.  I don’t have dementia but it did get me thinking about the benefits of music.

Here is a list of how music benefits our health.

  • It improves visual and verbal skills
  • Keeps an aging brain happier.
  • Makes you happier.
  • Music improves vascular health such as heartbeat, pulse rate and blood pressure.
  • It improves sleep quality
  • Boosts your immune system and reduces pain.
  • Reduces depression and anxiety

Week Thirty Six Saturday’s Grateful Post

Today I am grateful I am safe.

Today I saw an accident. It was a single driver – she hit the curb in front of me at 445 in the morning. I had just dropped Nick to his rowing meeting point and was on my way to walk along the river. I was first to her. She luckily was unhurt. She was very shaken . I am grateful she was unhurt.

Today I am grateful that she did not hurt me or anyone else – she was drunk. I wish the young lady all the best and hope this event has given her enough of a fright to not do it again.

Today I am grateful for the lovely man who stopped and helped at the scene. I was able to ensure the young lady was safe and he called the ambulance and the police ( she was taken to the police station after the incident).

Today I am grateful for all the services that came to the scene and are  available to keep us safe – the police, the paramedics, the firemen and the defense force ( the man that stopped was in the army). I felt that this young girl was well looked after and safe even though she had done the wrong thing.

Today I am grateful I was then able to drive to where I was walking in my nice safe car.

Today I am grateful that I had a lovely walk along the river and met friends for coffee afterwards. I am so grateful I live in a relatively safe city where I can walk and appreciate life.

Week Thirty Six Friday’s Grateful List

Today I am grateful I have finished all my thank yous.

Today I am grateful to Cara Marie Designs for designing and printing my Thank you cards.

Today I am grateful for my beautiful Mum who started the list of who gave me what after my accident.

Today I am grateful that I continued that list .

Today I am grateful that my hand is strong enough now to be able to write all these thank yous.

Today I am so grateful for all the cards, flowers, thoughtful presents and food that people gave me after my accident.

I am sorry if I have missed anyone. If you haven’t received a thank you please know it is not on purpose and it is only because I was pretty sick back in June 2015 and I didn’t record what you gave me. I am so thankful for everything people did. I know many people sent me prayers and wonderful wishes to get well. I can’t thank all of those people personally but please know in my heart I thank you.

Thank you

Week Thirty Six Tuesday’s Grateful List

Today I am grateful that I can drive. I spent quite a few months after my accident not driving so I really appreciate the independence driving gives me.

Today I am grateful that I was able to drive Nick to rowing this morning.

Today I am grateful that I have been able to drive myself to two appointments.

Today I am grateful that I have been able to do some shopping independently and then enjoy a cup of coffee and a scone.

Today I am grateful that it is a rainy day and I have a car to drive around in to stay dry.

Today I am grateful that I have actually learnt to love driving over the years . I used to drive because I had to – now I drive because I want to.
