Saturday’s Grateful List

Today I am grateful for all the things I can do.

Today I am grateful that even though I can’t run 8km I can walk 8km. I am grateful for the things I see when I am going slowly that I would miss if I was fast.

Today I am grateful that even though I can’t ride 100km I can ride 30km.

Today I am grateful that even though I can’t do yoga yet I can touch my toes and hopefully after my arthroscopy I will get back to yoga.

Today I am grateful that even though I am not as fit as I used to be I am definetly getting back there.

Today I am grateful that even though I am not back to a weight that I like on the scales I am fitting in to most of my clothes again.

I have decided that much unhappiness is the result of having expectations that are too high. What do you do that makes you unhappy and that perhaps if you changed your expectations would give you joy?

Until next time

Friday’s Grateful List

Today I am grateful for being able to walk.

Today I am grateful that I am building my fitness through long walks. Last week I managed to walk a total of 30km.

Today I am grateful that all you need to walk is legs and a pair of sand shoes.

Today I am grateful that when you walk you see so many lovely things because you are going more slowly than in a car. Yesterday it was sunshine, hippeastroms and ducks.

Today I am grateful for company when I walk. I love walking with David, my sisters, my children, my Mum and friends.

Today I am grateful that when you walk you can smile and say hallo to people. Do you know when someone smiles it changes their whole face. Have a look next time you smile at someone.

Today I am grateful for the beautiful spring weather we have in Brisbane at the moment and how beautiful it is to walk in the morning.

Until next time

Today I am not grateful

Today I am not grateful. I will be grateful again tomorrow but not today.

Today I am not grateful because I have to go back and have another general  anaesthetic.

Today I am not grateful because I have tears in the cartilage around both my hips.

Today I am not grateful because my bicycle accident probably contributed to these tears.

Today I am not grateful my movement is limited and I get pain in my right groin.

Today I am not grateful that I need an arthroscopy on the right hip to trim the cartilage and hopefully suture it back together.

Today I am not just not grateful about all these things. There are lots of things in relation to this little hiccup to be grateful about but for today I am just going to ungrateful.

Monday’s Grateful List

Today I am grateful for birthdays.

Today I am grateful to be forty nine.

I am grateful to be forty nine because I am not dead I am very much alive.

I am grateful to be forty nine because I love the ages my children are – not only are they independent, happy people but they can make and did make a cake for my birthday and gave me flowers and chocolate.

Today I am grateful I am forty nine because I have wonderful friends that I can share special times with and that I choose to spend time with. I was lucky enough to watch Riverfire with dear friends and there was cake involved!

The river before the fireworks.

Today I am grateful I am forty nine because I was spoilt by my husband. We went shopping together and he bought me a beautiful new outfit. He drove back to Brisbane from Palm Beach so we could go to River fire and we enjoyed watching Singing in the Rain yesterday afternoon.

Would You? – Singin’ in the Rain – Debbie Reynolds own voice

Irony of ironies – in a film that is all about dubbing actors, Debbie Reynolds herself was dubbed by Betty Noyes in this scene where she sings for Jean Hagen. I’ve restored Debbie’s original vocal track. To hear Betty sing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jstKarcgmKU Here’s a trivia question: who dubbed Debbie Reynolds’ voice when she was seen dubbing Jean Hagen’s onscreen speaking voice in the film?

I know many people do not like getting older but for me I am grateful for many reasons. I know I am getting more wrinkles (even though my children told me yesterday that I didn’t have any – bless them!) but I have a wonderful life. David and I are able to enjoy each other’s company. I am still able to travel. I travel with David, I travel with our family and I travel with girlfriends.  Our children are still at an age where they want to spend time with us and are quite independent. I still have all my faculties. I am able to walk, swim and cycle. I have the ability to continue learning and studying. I love birthdays and I love being able to enjoy and celebrate them.

Each age brings different challenges and different parts of life to enjoy. When I was young I enjoyed single life and school. When I was newly married I enjoyed setting up our home and getting to know David. When I was in my thirties I was constantly tired but loved raising and caring for our children. Now I am in my forties I still enjoy getting to know David, I am still raising our children and I love their company too. My Mum and Dad and David’s Mum and Dad are still incredibly independent and I love their company and being part of their continuing journey through life. I have a wonderful circle of friends and I am so glad to be able to share their journey through life also.

So today I am grateful for my birthday and being able to live life to the full.

Until next time

Today I am just grateful.

Monday’s Grateful List

Today I am grateful for my amazing amazing weekend.

Today I am grateful that my family was all together to support my Mum and Dad on the day their house went to auction. Even though the house didn’t sell on Saturday there was a lot of interest and I know someone will love it and buy it to make a whole lot of new wonderful family memories in it. It was fitting Mum and Dad and my sisters had a photo in the kitchen that morning.

Slide show

Today I am grateful that my sisters took Mum and Dad to lunch on Saturday while  I was able to stay at the auction.

Today I am grateful that Saturday afternoon was a wonderful afternoon of fun music at the Triffid. It was an afternoon to raise money for

AEIOU.

Today I am grateful that David Shelberg gave me the opportunity to sing with him. We did lots of practice and even did some busking.

In the green room.

Today I am grateful that we got such a fantastic reception from the crowd in the beer garden at the Triffid when we sang.

Today I am grateful that so many friends came to support the event. It was lovely to see so many familiar faces in the crowd.

Today I am so grateful that my son Nicholas and his girlfriend Madi came to watch. It was an over 18 event so my girls couldn’t come to watch.

Today I am grateful that my Mum and Dad and sisters and my sister in law all came to watch .

My sisters and I

Today I am grateful that my son picked me up from the venue later that night and brought me home.

Today I am grateful that I went for a ride on Sunday morning followed by breakfast at St Lucys at the uni. I rode with some wonderful friends and felt incredibly safe.

Today I am grateful that I caught up with my oldest friends Lyndal and Naomi. It was wonderful to hear all their news about themselves and their families.

Today I am grateful I spent the afternoon with my sister Liz.

Today I am grateful that my husband David is safe after his ride from Lorne in Victoria along the Great Ocean Road.

The boys have qualified for The World Championships next year

Thursday’s Grateful Post

Today I am grateful that I went for a walk this morning. I have niggling injuries that I am trying to fix but with no result just yet although I feel better in myself. I decided today I was just going to try walking because the benefits of getting out and exercising I think outweigh the injuries I have. It was wonderful to breathe in the fresh cool air and enjoy the outdoors. We will see how I feel tomorrow.

Today I am grateful for all the wonderful events available to do. There are so many walking, running, riding and swimming events available to challenge yourself. David showed me a Cycling tour in South Australia last night. It is a cycling holiday through the wineries in South Australia . It looks wonderful and perhaps something to aim to do in the future.

Today I am grateful that it is the first day of spring today. My vegetable garden is growing very fast and looking healthy and I have many plants covered in buds ready to burst.

Today I am grateful I am sleeping very well at the moment. Sleep always allows you to face the day a little more positively.

And finally today I am grateful I have lost a little bit of weight.

Until next time
